Tao Fong Shan Garden of Angels

The Tao Fong Shan Garden of Angels has been in service since 23 May 2019. It provides a resting place for babies lost through miscarriage before 24 weeks of pregnancy. A total of 144 resting places are available for Christian families in Hong Kong.

In Hong Kong, around 52 out of every 1,000 pregnancies end in miscarriage before 24 weeks. In 2016 alone, more than 3,800 such cases were recorded.

Under current Hong Kong law, babies lost before 24 weeks of pregnancy are not legally regarded as human remains and therefore cannot be buried through the usual burial procedures. If families are unable to arrange an appropriate legal resting place or cremation service, the fetal remains may ultimately be handled as clinical waste.

We believe that every baby is precious to their parents. Even when a pregnancy ends before 24 weeks, the baby should not simply be treated as clinical waste, adding further pain to a family already grieving a loss.

In response to this need, the Tao Fong Shan Christian Cemetery established the Garden of Angels, giving parents an opportunity to perform one final act of love for their baby and to provide them with a peaceful resting place.

As the number of resting places is limited, the Garden of Angels is currently available to Christian families.
