Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to apply?
Tao Fong Shan Christian Cemetery accepts applications for Christians and their family members.
Visitors of all faiths are welcome to pay their respects, provided that they respect the Christian nature of the Cemetery. Visits should focus on remembering the deceased, and ritual worship or offerings are not permitted.
What documents are required when applying?
Under the Cemetery’s current application procedures, family members arranging an initial burial must make an appointment to complete the burial authorisation process and prepare the documents required for their particular case.
These generally include:
- The deceased’s identity document;
- Death certificate;
- Relevant burial permit or authorisation issued by the appropriate government department;
- The applicant’s identity document; and
- Any other supporting documents or letters of authorisation required for the particular case.
Burial arrangements may proceed only after the application has been approved and the relevant burial authorisation has been issued by the Cemetery.
Families are often handling funeral arrangements, a Christian funeral or memorial service, death registration and other formalities at the same time. We therefore recommend allowing sufficient time to confirm the required documents with the Cemetery, rather than waiting until shortly before the burial date.
What burial options are available?
- Coffin burial plots
- Ossuary niches for exhumed remains
How long is the tenure?
For renewable burial plots, the initial tenure is 20 years. It may subsequently be renewed for periods of 10 years at a time.
Can family members be interred in the same burial plot?
Additional interment in an existing burial plot may be permitted, subject to the Cemetery’s regulations and completion of the relevant application procedures.
The current Cemetery Regulations and Application Procedures specify the eligible family relationships. These include parents, spouses, children and certain other designated relatives. Applicants must provide proof of the family relationship and documents relating to the existing burial plot.
Families who hope to have other family members interred in the same plot in the future are encouraged to ask about these arrangements when making the initial application.
Are applications currently being accepted?
Availability may change. Please contact the Cemetery to enquire about current availability and application arrangements.
